MOONLIGHT OF THE ISLAND – India
Directed by Brishtirani Hazarika
Moonlight of the Island is a 15-minute monodrama that blends Bhaona and Satriya vocabularies with contemporary physical theatre. Performed on a bare stage, the work follows an island woman whose memories unfold through movement rather than dialogue. A single cloth transforms into home, river, shelter and boundary, while a mask becomes both inheritance and burden. Childhood play, ritual discipline, flood and silence emerge as embodied states. Projection and light create shifting emotional landscapes, while breath and gesture carry the narrative.

The play explores identity shaped by water, tradition and displacement, asking what remains after rupture. In its final image, renewal appears not as completion, but as a quiet, ongoing act of becoming.
