FOR A BANANA – Colombia – Italy
Directed by Mayil Georgi Nieto

With Isabel we enter Macondo, the town of magical realism, while waiting for the burial of the Doctor whose death has been awaited by the whole village for over 10 years. Isabel tells us how the arrival of the Banana company turns all of Macondo upside down and that piece of history erased from the official History of Colombia – the massacre of farmers in the banana fields. In her story, like a premonition, the beginning of drug trafficking and the imperialism that destroys everything is present.

The show also makes use of the active participation of the audience in particular moments of the story, involving them not only from an emotional point of view, but in the succession of the story itself. In Isabel’s story other techniques typical of magical realism emerge, such as the manipulation of time, and the use of multiple perspectives. The show lends itself to representation even in unconventional and non-theatrical spaces due to its technical flexibility.
