”THE AMERICAN” – GREECE

“THE AMERICAN” is a dramatized narration by Thanassis Sarantos, based on the classic novel of Alexandros Papadiamantis, is presented for more than 15 years all over Greece, honoring the literature of the prestigious Greek writer Alexandros Papadiamantis (1851 – 1911) Ithikon Akmeotaton theatre company presents a theatrical adaptation of the homonymous classic novel by Alexandros Papadiamandis that involves an actor and a musician and reminds us the dimensions that human solitude can form as well as the “uncured” suspicion over whatever unknown.

In the performance Thanassis Sarantos, as the narrator, performs a persona of Papadiamantis, looks curiously at the action and “shifts” into all the 10 characters he narrates, with the contribution of the music and the sounds by the composer Lampros Pigounis played on stage by Constantinos Evaggelides. A dialogue of Papadiamandis’ exceptional writing with live music, a play between light and shadow. The universe of ambient sounds which are produced by a different use of piano suites with all the variety, the power and the 4 richness of the classic novel’s incredible Greek language of the early 20th century.
