”Agleyum Cliyopatrayum” (Egle and Cleopatra)-INDIA
Directed by Dr. Chandradasan
Agleyum Cliyopatrayum (Egle & Cleopatra) is a solo performance that intertwines Cleopatra from Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra and Egle from Lithuanian folklore, exploring love and feminine strength. Cleopatra, Egypt’s enigmatic queen, wields sensuality as a political tool, while Egle, a simple girl, is forced into marriage with a serpent prince, embodying innocence and sacrifice. Their journeys, shaped by love and fate, culminate in tragic loss and transformation.

A single actor enacts both roles through physical theatre and ritualistic elements, including Kerala’s Sarpakalam (snake-motif floor painting), dance, lighting, and live painting. Salim Nair’s evocative score, Elegy for Two Queens, enhances the performance’s immersive ambience. This production bridges cultural and historical divides, evoking archetypal female experiences and universal emotions.
